THANKSGIVING
Can you believe that we’re already passed Thanksgiving?! And, how is it already the end of November, with the weather changing and holiday season coming right up? You all know how much I crave the warmth and sunshine – I am Israeli-born-and-bred, after all – but there’s something about Thanksgiving that makes me smile so darn big. It isn’t a tradition that Noam or I grew up with, but it’s one that our Dekel crew has made our own since our three babies (all New Yorkers, I might add!) were born. Spending the long weekend with family and friends, putting Mediterranean twists on American classics, and doing a bit of Black Friday shopping (yes, I’m guilty of this) - all make for a great few days. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, too, is always a fun Thanksgiving morning highlight, playing on the television as we cook and lounge around in our pajamas before the big feast.
Speaking of the Parade…this year, I was so excited to be take Romi to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Balloon Inflation event in Central Park on Thanksgiving eve. We were invited as guests of PAW Patrol, the incredibly popular Nickelodeon show about a group of six rescue dogs, led by a tech-savvy kid named Ryder, who protects their community on rescue missions. My little girl is positively obsessed with PAW Patrol, as are millions of other children around the world! As a mama who carefully monitors what my children watch and how much time they are in front of the iPad and television screens, PAW Patrol is a show I avidly approve of. Each episode has a thoughtful lesson to be learned or an important challenge for the characters to work through and conquer, which provides additional opportunities for my kids to be taught problem-solving skills on a youngster level.
As many of us with young kids know, PAW Patrol is truly on a roll lately! Whenever there’s trouble, just ‘yelp for help’ and Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Zuma, Rocky, and Skye will be ready for action, no matter what challenge comes their way. With a mission to work together to keep Adventure Bay safe, no job is too big and no pup is too small. The PAW Patrol characters embark on their biggest mission yet in the brand-new TV movie, PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups. Available exclusively at Walmart, in this high-flying, heroic mission, the PAW Patrol are given Mighty Pup powers after a mysterious meteor lands in Adventure Bay. When Mayor Humdinger and his nephews trap Ryder and steal the meteor to take over the city, the pups must work together and use their power – from Chase’s super speed to Marshall’s mighty head, Rubble’s super strength and more – to race to the rescue and save the day.
This was the first time any of us Dekels attended the inflation event and even Noam and I were excited about this unique night activity. Since everyone had off the next day, we brought Romi out and allowed her to stay up a little bit later to enjoy this special event. She had THE BEST time and couldn’t get over how close she was to the action. And, the next morning all my kids watched the balloons on TV and the parade surely had an even greater meaning for Romi, since she watched the inflation process from start to finish.
We love exposing our children to new and exciting activities, as often as possible. This will surely be one for the books, and a wonderful beginning to Thanksgiving 2018. I’d love to hear what you and your families have planned this holiday season. And, I’d love suggestions for winter break fun for three kids under 8, since that next big break is fast approaching. If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments below!
Wishing you and your families a happy and healthy Thanksgiving, filled with delicious food, family time, and love!
